Könnte mir vorstellen, dass die so schnell keinen Synthesizer mehr auf Kickstarter stellen....

… Castro hat seine Glaubwürdigkeit verspielt. Das hat beim Avalon bereits angefangen und wird mit dem VS-1 enden.
Er mag audiotechnisch ein Genie sein, ein integrer Geschäftsmann ist er nicht.
Um bei ihm etwas zu ordern muss man eine Spielernatur sein mit der hier schon mehrfach erwähnten Attitüde «no risk, no fun». Ich finde den VS-1 einen fantastischen Synth mit einem atemberaubenden Klang und würde ihn gerne besitzen, aber leider nicht unter den gegebenen Umständen und Konditionen.

Ja. Die Avalon ist wirklich ein sehr gutes Gerät mit tollem Klang. Die frühen VS-1 Sound-Beispiele klangen auch alle super. Bei der Avalon hatte ich totales Glück: in UK bestellt und nur wenige Monate gewartet. Das ist eher die Ausnahme. Bei der VS-1 wollte ich das Risiko aber nicht eingehen. Das Geld ist ja quasi weg, wenn es nicht klappt. Ich finde es beunruhigend, dass immer noch Details im Design geändert werden und die Firmware geschrieben wird. Wie hat er damals eigentlich die Beispiele überhaupt hinbekommen? Abstract Instruments und Superlative sind 2 sehr traurige Bespiele, wie die eigentlich tolle Kickstarter Idee komplett korrumpiert wird.

… ja richtig, Superlative schraubt auch schon seit 5 Jahren am SB01, kündigt aber mit dem Monolab 1210 schon ein neues Produkt an … coming 2024!

Hi Everyone,

I had stated I would update even if there were not much news to share, so I didn't want to wait any longer to post another update. We need a little more time for the running changes in the DAC board and Mainboard to be completed before I can give a date for shipping the SMD assemblies to DIY backers. I will have a date relatively soon. We've had a very good stretch the past several weeks with some long days and good work completed. I've had a few backers ask about retail units and when they will ship. As much as I would like to put down a stake and give a date it would not be responsible as I do not know yet. Once the second part of the DIY parts are shipped and the operating system is closer to being completed I will have a better idea. As I've mentioned many times, I'm acutely aware of how late we are with this project but we will see it through until completion.

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all well. I am late again with another update. I wish we could make time slow down, it is unbelievable how fast the weeks pass these days. I've been handling most of the business operations myself these past few years just to survive so I'm doing the best that I can. It's certainly not ideal but I'm pleased we've been able to stay afloat without much income and we will be ok for the foreseeable future.

New production DAC boards finally made it yesterday after some shipping delays. I mentioned in previous updates we made a last minute change to add a low noise voltage regulator for DAC power right on the DAC board. This was to improve the performance of the DAC for better accuracy. After testing the new boards over the past several months we completed the new production run. They are slightly larger than the previous few versions. All said and done we ended up with five revisions. For those with DIY kits the DAC Board comes pre-assembled - but the Production version "A2" files are now linked on the website for reference. I have also updated the mainboard files on the website as the files from 2023 that were linked were not the final production files. The files have not changed much but some of the CV handling was off-loaded to the DAC board to avoid long back-and-forth trace runs. Also, the production assemblies were increased to 4 layers to improve EMI and improve the performance of some of the fast peripherals (especially the external Flash & DAC). Lastly, the DIY BOM was updated a few weeks back to reflect some of the parts that are no longer needed on the mainboard.

I have not yet started contacting DIY backers for the second package. I will soon be emailing every backer once again to confirm delivery address. At this time any missing parts from the first package can figured out and sent with the second package. I look forward to finally getting these parts shipped.

Jetzt stresst mal nicht so. Sind doch erst knapp 5 Jahre. Ich habe aber auch auf zwei Geräte sehr lange gewartet (2,5 und 3 Jahre). Irgendwann freut man sich nur noch über Updates und ärgert sich nicht mehr.
Bei Abstrakt Instruments verstehe ich aber echt nicht, warum sie die Avalon nicht wieder auflegen, ein kleines Team für die Fertigung suchen, und damit mehr Leute im VS1-Team subventionieren. Die Avalon dürfte sich selbst bei einer 1000er-Auflage im Handumdrehen verkaufen und liquide Mittel schaffen.

Ist wohl eine Mentalitätsfrage, wenn mir mehrere Leute eine nicht unbeachtliche Summe an Geld im Voraus bezahlen würden, liese ich aber sowas von die Hose wackeln um zu einem Ergebnis zu kommen.

Ich sehe das nun schon länger ganz entspannt. Die Summe habe ich mental schon länger abgeschrieben. Wenn dann irgendwann der Synth kommt, wird die Freude gross sein. Ob man ihn danach noch regulär bekommt und zu welchem Preis, steht auf einem anderen Blatt.
