So, hier Steves Text:
"Thing is Psi, it wasn't a vocal 'mass' - it was a tiny minority that did the real damage. You weren't here 18 months to 2 years ago - the bile and barbed vitriol that spewed forth from these peoples' guts to this very forum on a daily basis was just unbelievable and these morons pretty much killed Fusion sales dead then and there. One actually believed that he was a brave knight fighting a Jihad for the rights of exploited Fusion customers but the deluded moron was oblivious to the fact that his endless, repetitive and execrable rants were not helping anything or anyone, they were actually making things a lot, lot worse especially as they were being quoted across the net in different forums. That one particular (ahem!) 'user' probably did more damage singlehandedly than the other detractors collectively!
The irony was that a lot of this was occurring when Alesis were busting their arses to sort the situation with a raft of OS updates, new and free sound library, nationwide dealer training, promotional incentives, etc.. But every step forward Alesis made, they were kicked back by these idiots' wild speculation, conjecture and often downright lies that spread across the net like wildfire. Fusion hardly stood a chance especially as this negativity spread to the dealers who, for the most part, didn't get behind her (Sweetwater being one of the exceptions - Dan Fisher there saw immediately what Fusion was all about and got right behind it and flew the flag for the product loud and proud).
It's all very sad really and a cruel twist of fate that the product's lack of wider success and its ultimate demise was caused by its own user base, the very people who should have supported the product and its manufacturer.
V1.00 lemons are common in this business (and others) as products leave the factory too soon so that the bean counters can start to see a ROI but they usually recover and go on to be successful (Akai's MPC60 and S5/6000 are ones that I have direct experience of - now highly sought after). Fusion should have gone the same way but the daily pasting and cruel bashing that Fusion (and Alesis) received was unlike anything I have ever seen. Shame on those people responsible - they screwed it for everyone! They also created a situation where I think it is safe to say that we won't see another OS update and neither will there be a Fusion II (or a 'Fission' as one tedious speculator here used to endlessly predict!) - why should Alesis set themselves up for another episode like that?
Still, I guess that, looking on the bright side, it's allowed people who might not otherwise have bought (or afforded) one to get their hands on this little marvel and I suspect she will go the way of others that failed in the market like the Korg Z1 or the Yamaha FS1R and be sought after in the second-hand market. Right now (in the UK at least), they are selling quite well and the general reaction is "Wow!". In fact, even some people I know who used to knock Fusion purely on the basis of her, shall we say, 'unique' looks or the BS they'd swallowed are thinking to get one and I have had more than several emails enquiring about her.
It's all water under the bridge, of course, and what's done is done. I am just happy to be able to say "I've got mine" and she will be in residence here for many, many years to come and giving me some serious aural sex!"
