I had a look again at the fill section and I'm not quite sure anymore, if this was FILL, what I saw, or XFlag?
The FILL/X key is for FILL in the play pages (SONG/SCENE/TRACK), but the X flag in pattern edit.
The reason it isn't doing anything in play mode is because it isn't implemented yet.
The intention is that when you press FILL, each track will either switch to a fill-in pattern until the end of the bar, or mute, or carry on as normal.
At the track level, there needs to be new settings for fill mode, and (possibly) fill pattern.
If the fill mode were set to 'play pattern', then a separate pattern assignment would let you select an alternative pattern to play during fills.
The other fill modes would be 'mute' and 'off'.
There could also be a choice as to whether the fill for a track would trigger until the end of the next bar, then next scene loop, or it could be a 'toggle', where the track switches between normal and fill-in on each successive press of FILL.
Rather than having a separate fill pattern selection, there might be a fill-variation for each pattern linked to the pattern itself, not selectable as a separate pattern.
For that approach, there would be a save-as-fill option in pattern edit.
To create a fill-in, you would edit an existing pattern, change it to how you wanted it to play during a fill, then save-as-fill.
The pattern would take its fill-in version with it wherever it was assigned, so you wouldn't always have to remember which was the fill-in you did for pattern X, and manually assign it in any other scene you wanted to use it.
FILL is fairly high on the TBI list, so it should do something soon.
