The Mini doesn't have the same resonance character of that vintage unit's filter and the oscillators sound thinner. But, the Mini sounds much more modern and controllable. They are both excellent synths. The problem with any comparison is that every vintage MS20 sounds different. We get them in here all the time (currently have several) and they all have their own sound. So, the Mini is not a replica of the sound so much as it is a modern equivalent component-wise. Since they are analog components and only modern equivalents, there's no possible way they could sound the same. Yes, you can make them both have plucky bass sounds, but the minute characters that define analog synthesis will never be the same... they aren't even the same between 2 vintage units.
That's my professional opinion, anyways. Lots of people say that you just have to use the lowpass filter on the Mini to make it sound more like the original... the problem with that is you are altering the sound of the oscillators, meaning that it's not an exact replica of the oscillators if they need to be altered in order for them to sound alike. Make sense? This was the point of our video and we hope people can grasp this concept because it's very simple and not derogatory towards the Mini!
