Da werden normalerweise doch nur Hardware Controller gebaut, und man trauht sich jetzt sogar an einen echten Hardware Synth ...
Doepfer DIY-Synth one
After the build of four Hardware Controllers, i must do something different. I´ve decided to build my first real Hardware Synthesizer, the „Doepfer DIY-Synthone.
The Doepfer DIY-Synthone has two DIY Synth´s inside. That means 2 VCO´s (SAW,REC), 2 LFO´s, 2 VCF´s , 2 ADSR´s , 2 VCA´s and one CV/Gate 4 Octave Keyboard with joystick. Both Synth´s fix wired, but also with patch sockets.
The different here is, that the sockets don´t break the circuit of the Synth´s, when I plug in the patch cables. I use switches to break the circuit and activate the sockets.
The advantage is, for me of course, that I can park the patch cable in the sockets for later use without function.
When I switch to the sockets a LED lights on and show that the socket now is activ.
The ADSR 1 modulate the VCF 1 and/or the VCA 1 at the same time and the ADSR 2 modulate the VCF 2 and/or VCA 2 at the same time. But also I can do :
The ADSR 1 modulate VCF 1 and VCF 2 and the ADSR 2 modulate VCA 1 and VCA 2,. The same with the LFO´s.
The Keyboard controls the Synth 1 and 2 at the same time or seperatly. That means, I can use a step sequencer for Synth 1, per example, and play the Synth 2 with the keyboard. In this case I must use the patch sockets CV and Gate for Synth 1 (Step Sequencer) but not for Synth 2 (keyboard) because also here, with switches, I can change from intern wiring to patch sockets of the keyboard. Of course, I can use a Step Sequencer for both Synth´s.
With the velocity of the keyboard, a can modulate the VCF 1/2 , VCA 1/2 and LFO 1/2 all together or seperatly.
The Glide/Portamento Function works with one knob for both Synth´s or seperatly for Synth 1 OR Synth 2.
All these things, I can do with switches, without using the patch sockets and cables. But I also have the posibility to do all the things only by using the patch sockets, when I break the complete circuit with the switches.
At the end i have both, a Modular Synth, and a fix wired Synth, without using sockets for modulation or anything else.
And that all in a „OldSchool“ Case.
So, that´s the theory ….. and the practice … I will see ;o))
