Dual multimode filter with distortion/wavefolding, continuously variable everything. Fun fact: this thing went through a through-hole prototyping stage, to allow me to swap resistor values more easily.

Feature-Übersicht:

An essential overdrive circuit

• A CV-controlled overdrive stage precedes each of the two filters.
• Overdrive response continuously adjustable between soft-clipping and 2-stage wavefolding.

Two rich multimode filters

• Clean 2-pole (12dB/octave) state-variable design.
• CV-controlled filter response, continuously variable between low-pass, band-pass and high-pass.
• CV inputs with attenuverters for cutoff and resonance.
• Unattenuated frequency CV input, calibrated for 1V/Oct tracking.
• Clean self-oscillation across the audio range, extending into very low frequencies, with constant amplitude.
• Modulating the filter response is akin to modulating the phase of the self-oscillation tone.

Unique routing possibilities

• Continuously variable (and CV-controlled) routing from single to parallel to series.
• With a signal patched into filter 2’s audio input, the routing knob and CV act as a crossfader.
• Filter 2’s cutoff can be set relatively to filter 1’s cutoff.

Specifications

• Fully analog, based on the V2164 quad VCA chip.
• Frequency knob range: 8Hz to 18kHz.
• Audio input impedance: 30k.
• DC-coupled audio inputs.
• Filter mode CV input impedance: 50k.
• Other CV inputs impedance: 100k.
• All CV inputs handle audio-rate modulations.

I guess it’s all analog at this point?
Yes, Blades is all analog! So all the tweaking is done by swapping component values, not by editing code

On what is the filter and the distortion based?
Shruthi dual SVF, and Zener diodes.

How much gain can the Drive provide - is it enough to patch in a line level signal as with Ripples v2?
It goes up to 20dB, which should be enough for bringing a line level signal to modular level. Two caveats:

• It won’t distort / drive obviously. DRIVE will be cranked to the maximum but your signal will stay in the safe zone where everything is linear. You can solve that by “cheating” and adding a constant CV to the DRIVE input!
• It’s slightly more noisy than Ripples, because the circuit is voltage-controlled!

Hatte er auch angekündigt, dass das mit Open Hard- und Software wohl eingestellt werden soll. Nachdem das ganze doch eher ausufernd mißbraucht wurde in den letzten Jahren, ist dies sicherlich auch verständlich.

Doch , schön viel Platz ... Ich hab meine Joranalogue verkauft weil ich ständig das Tuning verändert habe usw.. Mir ist das Design eigentlich latte , aber es ist echt griffig gemacht und man kann entspannt schrauben. Hat sich für mich als wichtig herausgestellt, gerade wenn es mal komplett angestöpselt ist..

Wie verschieden doch Geschäcker sind
Ich finde das Design absolut Klasse und werde mir irgendwann nochmal ein mini mutable only case bauen

Mich hatte es klanglich nicht abgeholt. Aber das ist ja bekanntlich eine Frage des Geschmacks.

Ist nach wie vor eins meiner Lieblingsfilter neben Filterthreek und Dinsync Sara. Benutze es aber auch oft als Synthstimme bzw. Doppelosc (Eigenschwingung > Wavefolder > FM zweites Filter in Eigenschwingung).
