Crumar aus Italien bauen den "Klassiker" den nicht so viele kennen wieder.
Den Synth von 1983 mit faktisch gleichem Look - das wird interessant, welcher Preis das sein wird.

2 OSCs, ein bisschen Multimoog-Look mit Edelverplankung, 2 ADSR-Hüllkurven, Mixer mit Ringmodulator und Rauschgenerator und eine Reihe von Modulation über LFO und Moog-Style-Routing rechts und links per Wheel bzw. Shaper

it's a great project and I have a question about it:

Will the Y-shaper on this Crumar Spirit - i.e. LFO and Arp - be able to be synchronized to a midi clock or to an analog trigger-/clock- or Gate signal? this was not possible with the old Crumar Spirit, the Y-shaper was completely cut off from an external control. In mine I had a modification at the Midi-Socket by Nikolaus Riehm www.studiorepair.de with the following option:

Use External Gate In for controlling the Oscillator A/B/Noise only (standard factory installation). The Y-Shaper works only in “Free Mode”, no external controlling is possible.
Use the modification input with a external Gate for controlling the Oscillator A/B/Noise Mixer AND the Y-Shaper with Oscillator A/B/Ring/Noise Mixer. The Y-Shaper works with the external gate similar as the “KB Hold Mode” (no gate – no sound).
Use the modification input with the yellow ring for controlling the LFO with a external clock (trigger from a 606/808). Lets play with the LFO/SH Rate knob for a clean synchronization (12 o’clock) or others for a weird and shuffled timing.
Its not possible to synchronizing the Arpeggiator.
The Gate must be 12 to 15 Volt

Von allen hier in letzter Zeit vorgestellten Synths (Prophet 5 in Neu is' eh klar)
zusammen mit dem Mavis ( den muss ich noch zusammen bauen 😊) zieht
mich das Teil am meissten..

Aber im Prinzip genauso teuer wie ein Original, nur mit Garantie drauf.

Und, wie gesagt, das Original wollte schon keiner, damals nicht wie heute auch.

Ich mag das großzügige UI und der Sound scheint mir ganz ok zu sein. Ich könnte auf jeden Fall damit einen Track machen.

Die Resonanz von dem Filter fand ich jetzt mal sehr schön. Aber vier Kilo isse mir dann auch nicht wert 😅

Aber das wollen wir jetzt gar nicht so genau wissen.

Unter'm Strich war der Spirit ein Designjob, ausgeführt von einer legendären Figur der Synthesiserhistorie mit Unterstützung einiger langjähriger Mitstreiter, in Auftrag gegeben durch einen italienischen Orgelhersteller, der bis dato relativ plan- wie glücklos versucht hatte, auf dem Synthesisermarkt Fuß zu fassen, zu einem Zeitpunkt, als analog toter war als meine Oma damals schon.

ja, ich bekam eine Rückantwort auf mein Ticket, die leider etwas dünn ausfiel bzgl. meines konkreten Themas. Da kann sich jeder seine eigene Meinung bilden:

The "Crumar Spirit 2023" is not a new model, a modification of the original, an improvement or something similar, it is a tribute to the instrument, to the people involved in the project (Bob Moog, Tom Rhea, Jim Scott, Luciano Iura and Sante Crucianelli) and we decided to make the new instrument as close as possible to the original one, with all the pros and cons.
We do not know yet if in the future there will be a "normal production" Crumar Spirit synth, in which case it won't be manufactured like we are manufacturing these now, but it will be a modern synth with all the features required in 2023. Again, this limited production run of 100 pieces has to be considered a tribute, not a reissue, not a clone.

Verstehe ich es richtig, dass die Modifikation ausserhalb vom Instrument gemacht wird (ist ja nur ein Kabel, welches auf die MIDI-Buchse geht) und somit den Originalzustand vom Spirit nicht verändert?
Zudem: damit kann man lediglich bei "Note On" Events gleichzeitig das "normale" Gate für Oszillatoren antriggern plus den Y-Shaper - korrekt?

ich kann Dir nicht mehr sagen wie das intern gelöst war, vermutlich hat Niko Riehm das Gate abgegriffen und auf den Y-Shaper geroutet. die vorhandene Midi-Buchse wurde per Y-Kabel auf Midi verwendet, um das Gate für Note on/off und Synchronisation des Y-Shapers zu nutzen, also nur für den LFO. Den Arp konnte man gar nicht extern triggern oder clocken.
am Synthi wurde aber optisch nichts verändert, keine Bohrung.

Zu meinem Verständnis: funktioniert MIDI in deinem Exemplar, auch nach der Modifikation von Niko?

In der Zwischenzeit habe ich auch nochmal Andrea angeschrieben, jedoch wurde ich auf das Support-Forum umgeleitet... finde es schon uncool, dass die MIDI Features noch nicht veröffentlicht worden sind.

Midi hat niemals im Spirit funktioniert, weil es nicht eingebaut war. Nur der Blindstopfen war vorhanden und dieses Loch hat Niko Riehm für die Modifikation 2x Gate für X und Y-Shaper genutzt, so wie es auf meinen Bildern zu sehen ist. Den Crumar habe ich schon lange verkauft, so 2010/2011 weil mir jemand aus NL einen RSF Kobol KB Version aus der Olivier Grall Sammlung angeboten hatte. Der war für mich auch die bessere Wahl am Ende.

Ja bei Crumar kannste nur ein Ticket auf Support Ebene eröffnen, die kommunizieren nicht per E-Mail, hatte ich ja geschrieben.

Damals war Niko noch sehr zuverlässig und recht zügig, meinen Oberheim 2Voice hat er auch repariert und modifiziert.

Aber ich gönne Dir Erheiterung, zum Thema trägts allemal nicht bei.

Bestätigt ist nun für den neuen Crumar 2023: MIDI wird lediglich "Note on/off" sein. Alles andere wird es nicht geben, bzw. evtl. erst falls Crumar sich entscheiden sollte, das Gerät in einer grösseren Auflage herzustellen.
Ich werde dennoch der Sache nachgehen: Y-Shaper Trigger geht ja (siehe Niko Riehm). Das mit dem Clock Sync schaue ich auch mit den Leuten an, die daran was gewerkelt haben. Technisch alles machbar.

Das ist sogar logisch, da wesentlich mehr als Vel und AT und Pitchbend werden oft nicht möglich weil man sonst die Knöpfe quasi mit CC und damit speicherbar machen müsste und dann könnte man sie auch steuern. Das wird bei der Auflage nicht gehen, auch wenn der Preis das suggeriert.

Ich spreche den Trigger für den Y-Shaper an und den Clock-Sync. Da diese Mods (zumindest die für den Y-Shaper) schon erfolgreich umgesetzt wurden, wäre es schön gewesen, hätte man dieses "Upgrade" mit eingeführt. Mal schauen, wie weit ich die Jungs bearbeiten kann... :-p
