Apple Macintosh Computer - the Mac - , Cuptertino USA now Apple Inc.

early: OS9.22 (latest) newer: OSX 10.4 (Tiger), 10.5 (Leopard, Jan 2007), etc.

began with the nice small "cube" kind of MacIntosh model in 1984 which was cute and quite ahead technically because it had a real graphical interface and was based on the fast new 16 Bit processors from Motorola with RISC architecture.

  • with Motorola 68K family processors
  • later with PowerPC 601 and 604 processors in 1994
  • changed to Intel with new product line on all models with the Xeon and dual core processors from Intel around 2006
