Der Torso S4 Sampler und Granular Looper​

Nach dem T1 Sequencer muss auch ein Klangerzeuger her, ein Sampler für die Performance mit schlankem Fuß und 4 ins/outs, MicroSD und MIDI in/out, Sync in/out analog, Kopfhörer alle in 3.5mmm und polyphoner Wiedergabe mit quasi 4 "Spuren" und USB-C.
Ein Looper, Granularsampler und Pad-Teppichknüpfer-Sampler - der wohl zwischen Looper und Geräten wie dem Tempera liegen aber auch ein bisschen vom Polyend Play.

Der S-4 wurde mit der Firmware-Version 1.0.0 ausgeliefert, bei der diverse Funktionen noch nicht enthalten sind, was aktuell bei diversen Usern für Unmut sorgt. Ein erstes Update ist für Ende Juni geplant, bei dem dann auch diverse Bugs behoben werden sollen, die aktuell gesammelt werden.

Ebenfalls wurde verschiedentlich Unzufriedenheit über die verwendeten Encoder und Taster geäußert, die eine von vielen erwartete Wertigkeit vermissen lässt.

Großes Lob erfährt das große und kristalklare Display.

Was bei der Thematik auffällt, dass diverse User sehr hoche Erwartungen an den S-4 und die Entwickler haben, hierbei aber außeracht lassen, dass es sich um ein kleines Team und ein Kickstarterprojekt handelt, bei dem es eben auch nicht ungewöhnlich ist, dass das jeweilige Gerät beim Kunden weiterentwickelt wird.

Wenn du konkrete Fragen hast, will ich gerne, soweit mir eben möglich, gerne versuchen, diese zu beantworten.

Nicht missverstehen, Sie machen das, was sie sollen, sind aber ein klicki und haben leichtes Spiel. Ich war anfangs auch ein wenig reserviert, komme aber inzwischen ganz gut mit ihnen zurecht. Die Meinung hierzu geht halt auf den verschiedenen Plattformen weit auseinander - von "Funktioniert" bis hin zu "geht gar nicht".

Mit dem Wissen, dass die Funktionen nach und nach eingebaut werden, finde ich es nicht weiter dramatisch. Unglücklicher wäre es Funktionen zu haben, die unausgereift sind. Es ist ja nicht so, dass nicht vorhanden wäre. So hat man dann Zeit, sich eingehend mit den Funktionen vertraut zu machen, die beriets vorhanden sind.

Ergänzen kann ich noch, dass es wohl wenige Geräte gibt, die intuitiver zu bedienen sind. Die Funktionen sind wirklich selbsterklärend. Man sollte bei der ganzen Thematik natürlich Spaß am Sound-Mangling haben .

Ja, danke für Deine Einschätzung. Ist eine individuelle Sache. Ich habe auch eine Osmose und wegen der Encoder und Taster werde ich sie wohl dann leider bald verkaufen. Ich komme damit nicht klar.

Enhancements​

• RING/VAST/RANDOM/WAVE. Lower rates for time-based parameters.
• TAPE: The timeline now updates instantaneously when selecting a sample, so it is more apparent when longer samples are being loaded.
• RANDOM: Improved Smoothing parameter. Values up to 70% now behave more like a glide.
• VAST: Improved Damp and Spread behavior when Freeze is enabled.

• Bugfixes
  • TAPE: Length of loaded samples is increased to 6 minutes.
  • TAPE: When Tape is in Freeze mode, the playhead no longer moves forward when adjusting Start or Length. The playhead will resync when Freeze is disabled.
  • TAPE: Fixed a bug where Start and Length grid division was not linked.
  • VAST: Toggling Freeze no longer causes delay line to self-oscillate.
  • VAST: Damp no longer increases delay feedback
  • RANDOM/WAVE: Rates in Free are now independent from BPM.
  • RANDOM: Modulator no longer goes out of sync when changing rate.
  • RANDOM: Variation parameter now affects the last step of modulation.

Die beiden von dir benannten Updates waren Bug-fixes, die kurzfristig entwickelt und dazwischen geschoben wurden. Die haben, wenn man denn der Stimmung auf Discord folgt, für mehr Probleme gesorgt, also Problemlösungen herbeigefürhrt.

Das "eigentliche" Firmware-Update, welches u.a. auch Midisynch, so wie weitere noch fehlende Funktionen mitbringt, wurde direkt vor oder nach Auslieferung des ersten Batches für Ende July 2024 angekündigt. Dies wird seit dem auch so unermüdlich kommuniziert.

Die Community ist da momentan recht unentspannt unterwegs.

Ich hab den Torso- Sampler ja ganz oben auf der Wunschliste. Aber alles, was ich so höre, kingt ziemlich ähnlich. Fast möchte man sagen, langweilig. Verblasen. Und nachdem die Maschine offenbar noch nicht stabil und jeder Käufer eingentlich Betatester ist, warte ich noch mit dem Kauf.

Übrigens kann man mit einem Kaosspad 3 pro+ vier Samlples parallel rekorden, mit Effekten würzen, resampeln und mächtig mit- und gegeneinander mixen und verdrehen. Ich werd mich damit wieder mal intensiv beschäftigen, damit mir die Wartezeit auf das S4 kürzer wird.
Und weil ich schon dabei bin: auch mein AnamonoX ist, wenn ich will, ein Vierspursampler . Bisschen sperrig zwar im Zugriff, aber mächtig im Sampleverwursten.

We are happy to let you know, the next update for the S-4 is almost ready. Besides MIDI and analog sync, we’ve bundled in a number of other fixes and improvements, in what we now are calling version 1.1.0. Here’s a sneak peek at what you can expect:

• Fixed an issue where TAPE wouldn’t play when switched from POLY.
• Resolved a crash when multiple CCs controls the same parameter.
• A fix for an issue causing MIDI CC on a single parameter to be shown on all subsequent tracks
• Addressed envelope aliasing and playhead position issues in the POLY device.
• Tweaks and fixes to the delay in the VAST device
