Das ist für die NERDS! Vor 37 Jahren, genauer gesagt am 23.Juli 1985 wurde in New York der legendäre Homecomputer Amiga 1000 von Commodore im Rahmen einer großen Show, zum ersten Mal einer breiten Masse vorgestellt. Während der Show zeichnete kein geringerer als Pop-Art-Künstler Andy Warhol ein Bild der Sängerin der Band Blondie, Deborah Harry, welches er dann live am Amiga neu einfärbte.
Das Publikum war begeistert von den grafischen und musikalischen Fähigkeiten des Amigas, kannte man doch sonst nur monochrome Displays, sowie Beep Sounds aus der PC oder C64 Welt. Der Amiga war der Konkurrenz um Lichtjahre voraus. Vier Kanal Stereo Sound, Multitasking, mehrfarbige grafische Benutzeroberfläche sowie volle TV und Video Kompatibilität, um nur einige Merkmale zu nennen, versprachen das ultimative Multimedia Erlebnis, bevor das Wort Multimedia überhaupt geboren wurde.
Aber wie es manchmal so ist, läuft nicht immer alles nach Plan und Commodore musste 1994 Konkurs anmelden … seitdem ging der Amiga (also die Patentrechte) durch viele Hände und geriet mit der Zeit, für die meisten Menschen, in Vergessenheit. Für die meisten, nicht für alle, denn auch 37 Jahre später, gibt es weltweit noch tausende aktive Amiga Benutzer*innen. Dank des Internets findet hier auf internationaler Ebene ein intensiver und kreativer Austausch statt. Alleine das deutsche Amiga Forum (www.a1k.org) verzeichnet über 4000 Benutzer*innen. Die Szene ist hoch aktiv, und trifft sich regelmäßig, quer über den Globus, auf den verschiedensten Conventions. So auch am 15. und 16. Oktober, zur Amiga 37 Messe, im Kunstwerk Wickrath.
Aber was hat das Projekt42 damit zu tun?
Wir haben die Ehre die Aftershowparty der Amiga37 zu hosten und dazu ein Programm aufgestellt das die Herzen aller Retro Nerds schneller schlagen lässt. Von Amiga Fans für Amiga Fans mit viel Liebe zum Detail geplant und kuratiert.

This is for the NERDS! 37 years ago, on July 23rd 1985 to be exact, the legendary home computer Amiga 1000 from Commodore was presented to the masses for the first time at a big show in New York. During the show, none other than pop artist Andy Warhol drew a picture of the singer of the band Blondie, Deborah Harry, which he then re-colored live on the Amiga.
The audience was thrilled by the graphic and musical capabilities of the Amiga, otherwise they only knew monochrome displays and beep sounds from the PC or C64 world. The Amiga was light years ahead of the competition. Four channel stereo sound, multitasking, multi-color graphical user interface, and full TV and video compatibility, to name just a few features, promised the ultimate multimedia experience before the word multimedia was even born.
But as it sometimes happens, things don't always go according to plan and Commodore had to file for bankruptcy in 1994 ... since then, the Amiga (i.e. the patent rights) passed through many hands and over time, for most people, fell into oblivion. For most, not for all, because even 37 years later, there are still thousands of active Amiga users worldwide. Thanks to the internet an intensive and creative exchange takes place on an international level. The German Amiga Forum alone (www.a1k.org) has over 4000 users. The scene is highly active, and meets regularly, across the globe, at various conventions. So also on the 15th and 16th of October, at the Amiga37 fair, in the Kunstwerk Wickrath.
But what does Projekt42 have to do with it?
We have the honor to host the aftershow party of the Amiga37 and have set up a program that will make the hearts of all retro nerds beat faster. Planned and curated by Amiga fans for Amiga fans with great attention to detail.
