The AudioCubes by Percussa, are smart light-emitting cubes for creating sound, music and visuals. They were launched in January 2007 at the Namm show.

Every AudioCube has 4 onboard high speed and low latency infrared sensing and communication ports (1kHz sensor update rate/few milliseconds latency). The cubes can detect each other's position and location in a network, as well as sense distances. One AudioCube acts as a base station cube, and the other cubes communicate wirelessly with the base station cube. You can use up to 16 cubes per USB-port.

The AudioCubes were first launched as a tool for live performance.

Past years, several software applications have been developed for the AudioCubes, and the cubes can now be used for algorithmic composition, generative music, sound design, music education, etc.

Software applications:

  • Synthor: Modular Synthesizer software application for AudioCubes
  • Soundor: Fm Synthesizer for AudioCubes
  • Evolvor: Application for generating complex LFO waveforms using AudioCubes
  • MIDIBridge: Middleware software to hook up audiocubes to other software/hardware that supports MIDI
  • OSCBridge: Middleware software to hook up audiocubes to other software/hardware that supports OSC
