New reverb generations uses one short impulse - to be exact: they sample the impulse response (the signal that comes back to the microphone, it listens to the short impulse with no other noise but the room or environment itself) and with this the nature of the room can be played back and recorded via recording just one impulse through a loudspeaker and microphone to get a more realistic "sampled" hall/reverb.
